Debunking Statistics of Why Marriages End

We thought this article published a few days ago had interesting statistics about marriage and divorce. We weren't surprised that second marriages are not more successful than first marriages or that bereaved parents don't necessarily end up divorced.
"... 60% of remarriages fail. They also fail more quickly -- after 10 years, 37% of remarriages fail compared with 30 of first marriages ... a middle-class second marriage faces 3% more risk of divorce than a first marriage ..."

"[In 2006 a survey] found the divorce rate among bereaved parents to be 16 percent; in 1999, the rate was 12 percent."

We were glad to see other marriage myths debunked in the article, especially the one about police officers having high divorce rates. In reality, those with highest divorce rates are dancers and choreographers, bartenders, and massage therapists.

Other myths debunked in the article concern cohabitation, the number of marriages ending in divorce, which country has the highest divorce rate, women's standard of living after divorce, and parents of autistic kids.
